In the best possible taste…


World class chefs from across the globe did culinary battle at Taste of Abu Dhabi last month competing in the grand final of the Etihad Taste of the World competition.

Taste of Abu Dhabi has become a firm favourite on the Gulf’s food festival circuit and last month returned to the UAE capital for its third celebration of food, drink and music

The festival was a veritable fantasy of culinary indulgence for any food-lover; jam packed with the hottest new restaurants, world-class chefs, an amazing line-up of music, fresh features and over 100 exhibitors. And if that was not enough it was also host to the grand final of the Taste of the World competition; celebrated chefs from round the globe who won their national rounds of the Taste of Food Festivals around the world throughout 2016.

The finalists included Pascal Aussignac of Club Gascon, London, Andre Gerrits Amsterdammertje, Amsterdam, Michael Hunter, Antler Restaurant, Toronto, Andrea Provenzani, Il Liberty, Milan, Vitaly Tikhonov, G.Graf, Moscow, Siu Hin Chi, Duddell’s, Hong Kong, Scott Bridger, Bib & Tucker and May Street Larder, Perth, Sylvestre Wahid, Restaurant Sylvestre, Paris, Francesco Apreda, Imàgo, Rome and Nelly Robertson nel., Sydney.

The competition took place across three days and produced an incredible array of creative and delicious dishes giving the judging panel some tough decisions to make; and after much deliberating, cogitating, digesting the worthy winner of the Etihad Airways Taste of the World trophy was awarded to Michelin-starred André Gerrits, chef-patron of Dutch farm restaurant Amsterdammertje in Amsterdam, Holland; where his creative culinary flair and inventive cuisine combine perfectly with the innate home-style chic of his charming restaurant.
